Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | Uplift PLUS Counselors are vital members of the University Office for Diversity and Inclusion (UODI) team who serve as positive role models for prospective Carolina students, promote participant engagement in scheduled activities, foster an inclusive and safe residential environment, and support the operations of the Uplift PLUS program. Uplift PLUS Counselors work under the supervision and direction of the Assistant Director for Student Access, Success, and Engagement. |
Position Summary |
Uplift PLUS is an intensive, 2-week summer academic enrichment and college readiness program for rising high school seniors. During the program, participants live on campus, take an essay writing course, participate in cultural competence workshops, and interact with campus partners and offices. Participants also engage in college application prep, leadership development, and experiential learning opportunities. This position requires the Uplift Counselor to live in the dorms during the two weeks of the camp (July 7th-20nd.) Job Description: Uplift PLUS Counselors are vital members of the University Office for Diversity and Inclusion (UODI) team who serve as positive role models for prospective Carolina students, promote participant engagement in scheduled activities, foster an inclusive and safe residential environment, and support the operations of the Uplift PLUS program. Uplift PLUS Counselors work under the supervision and direction of the Assistant Director for Student Access, Success, and Engagement. Counselor Core Responsibilities: o Serve as a positive role model for prospective Carolina students o Foster community, inclusion, and belonging among program participants through interaction and engagement o Serve as a source of information regarding UNC-Chapel Hill, campus resources, and student life o Observe, address, and respond to participant needs; communicates any issues or concerns to UODI professional staff members o Assist with administrative tasks as delegated by UODI professional staff o This is a residential, live-in position. Uplift PLUS counselors are required to live on-campus in the designated dormitory throughout the duration of the program. The dates for 2024 Uplift PLUS are July 7-22, 2024. Candidates should be well skilled in the following areas: * Must reside in the residence hall with program participants; must serve in an on-call rotation throughout the duration of the program * Complete all required program/employee trainings * Verbal and written communication * Critical thinking and creative problem solving * Effective and ethical decision-making skills * Time management skills, especially as it relates to managing and coordinating activities for program participants * Ability to work with sensitive information * Ability to work independently and with a group * Have a working knowledge of University resources * Agree to abide by all University policies, |
